Tarot is often seen as a way of predicting the future, but my approach is different. I see tarot as a powerful tool for self-reflection, using archetypes, psychology, symbolism and intuition to help us explore our inner world. The cards act like mirrors, offering us images and themes that can reveal what we may already know deep down but haven’t yet brought into awareness.
Each card represents a human experience, emotion, challenge or possibility. The archetypes within tarot are something we can all recognise — the beginner stepping into the unknown, the wise guide, the creator, the seeker, the person facing change. By connecting with these archetypes, we can explore our own stories with more curiosity and compassion.
One of the biggest shifts in my approach is understanding that there are no “bad” tarot cards. Even the cards that appear challenging are not there to scare us or predict something negative. They are offering us information, awareness and an opportunity for growth. A difficult card may simply be bringing our attention to something that needs care, healing or a different perspective. I like to think of the cards as offering us “medicine” — a message, insight or invitation that can support us in the moment and help us through times of change.
The power of tarot comes from asking empowering questions. Instead of asking, “Will this happen?” or “What is going to go wrong?”, we can ask questions that put us back in our own hands: “What do I need to understand about this situation?” “What energy can support me right now?” or “What part of myself is asking to be seen?” The cards don’t take away our choices — they help us connect more deeply with our own wisdom.
For example, if someone draws The Fool, rather than seeing it as a warning to be reckless, we might ask: “Where am I being invited to trust myself and take a new step?” The card becomes a source of encouragement, reflection and possibility. Tarot becomes less about searching for answers outside ourselves and more about creating a conversation with our own intuition, helping us move through life with greater awareness, confidence and self-trust.
